A Voice from the Eastern Door

As we publish the last issue of Indian Time

This photo illustrates Indian Time Newspaper's first issue published on July 1, 1983. On the cover is Ernie Mitchell – former extraordinaire lacrosse goalie. As we publish the last issue of Indian Time, we look back at former stories and where we are at right now and how they relate to present day.

I'd like to thank every past and present Indian Time staff member.

For the past twelve years, I woke up and I was excited to go to work. I enjoyed the people I worked with and the many people I was introduced to as a reporter – editor of Indian Time.

Indian Time was built on a strong foundation of community involvement, coverage and empowerment. From Alex Jacobs and Dan Thompson to Doug George, Joyce King, and Shannon Burns-Roundpoint – their drive and focus on all things 'Akwesasne' drove this paper home from being a community paper to a highly respected media outlet.

I'm deeply honored, yet humbled to have been part of this extraordinary team.

Niawenko:wa to our dedicated readers in Akwesasne and to our supporters in surrounding communities.

Niawenko:wa to Bruce, Cathy, Randy, Issac, and Emily. I couldn't have done this without you, Kaniehtonkie.
