A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Portraits of Service exhibit paired talented artists with individuals who have made significant contributions to Potsdam community and in the North Country. Through this partnership, artists learned about the life and work of a community member dedicated to bettering our region. Using these personal narratives as inspiration, the paired artists created an original piece of art that reflects and honors the service and commitment of their partnered community member.
The opening reception was held at the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center in Potsdam on Friday evening. This exhibit showcases the artwork created to represent the Portrait of Service honoree. Those attending the reception presented participants the opportunity to engage with both the artists and the individuals whose lives have inspired the creations.
Artists were chosen through samples of their work along with a brief statement explaining their interest in this collaborative project. Selected artists were then paired with a North Country community member and provided with the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations to gain insight into their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Using these shared stories as inspiration, artists create an original piece of art that captures the essence of their partner's journey of service.
