A Voice from the Eastern Door
HOWES CAVE, NY – The Iroquois Museum welcomes Tuscarora/Algonquin beadworker Sage Printup on Sunday, November 24 from 12 – 4:00. Sage will demonstrate the art of raised or embossed beadwork. New to the art form, she began exploring its creative possibilities after being inspired by the elaborately beaded purses, pin cushions, and mementos that were sold to tourists during the Victorian Era at Niagara Falls. Sage explains, “I draw inspiration from images of these older pieces to learn different patterns. As it is such a characteristic style, I feel very connected to history through this beadwork, and I hope to teach others so that we may carry it into the future.”
The demonstration is free with museum admission. If you’ve been planning a visit before we close for the season on November 30 or are looking for a way to acknowledge Native American Heritage Month, this is an ideal opportunity.
