Ty Thompson Joins Bears Men's Lacrosse Staff

POTSDAM – SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse coach Gill Conners has named former professional player and All-American Ty Thompson to his staff for the 2025 season.

"I am thrilled to announce Ty as my assistant coach and offensive coordinator," said Conners. "His playing career and accolades speak for themselves, but his selflessness and humility are what drew me to him and what I am most excited for our players to witness. His knowledge of the game and roots of lacrosse are invaluable, and I look forward to him putting his stamp on Potsdam Men's Lacrosse."

Thompson grew up playing box lacrosse for the Akwesasne Storm. He also played Junior A and Junior B box lacrosse for the Akwesasne Indians. While at Salmon River in 2009, Thompson was named a high school All-American. The following year with the Salisbury School, he won the New England Championship and was named first team All-New England.

In college, Thompson played for Division I University at Albany from 2011-14. With the Great Danes he was a two-time All-American, ranking in the top-10 in points (195) and sixth in goals (154). At Albany, he composed a third of the "Thompson Trio" alongside Lyle and Miles Thompson.

After college, Thompson was drafted in the fourth round, 28th overall, by the Rochester/Dallas Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. He spent five seasons with the Rattlers, totaling 76 goals and 15 assists. Thompson also played one season with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League and one with Chrome LC of the Premier Lacrosse League. In 2018, he represented his nation as a member of the Haudenosaunee Nationals, winning a bronze medal at the World Lacrosse Championship in Israel.

"I want to thank Coach Conners for giving me this opportunity," said Thompson. "Lacrosse is my passion, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge of the game and doing whatever I can to help build this program. I also want to thank my family and Coach Scott Marr for helping me get to this position. And lastly, I want to thank my girlfriend and my two kids for supporting me in this decision. I can't wait to get started. Go Bears!"
