A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE – Alexander J. Tehoroniateh Garrow, Jr., 81, Eel Clan, Kanienkehaka Kaianerehkowa Raokiohkwa, Akwesasne, known to many as "Tota Lug", unexpectedly went back to the Spirit World on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
Alex was born in Syracuse on January 10, 1943, the son of the late Alexander J. and Agnes (Herne) Garrow. He attended school in Syracuse and on March 3, 1967, he married Minnie Tebo.
Alex was an ironworker starting with Local 711 in Montreal, transferring to Local 60 in Syracuse, and later retiring from Local 440 in Utica. Alex will fondly be remembered for being an excellent lawn keeper throughout the community. He was the #1 fan of all of his grandchildren's sport events. He enjoyed playing chess, following NASCAR, was an avid NY Giants fan, and enjoyed watching football and baseball. In his younger years while living in Syracuse, he was a member of the NAIC Bowling Leagues and played softball with the Skins Softball Team.
Alex is survived by his wife, Minnie; his children, Shawn Garrow, Andra (Lance) Garrow Isaacs, Alex "Big Boy" (Casie) Garrow, III, Rene Garrow, and Monica (Isaac) Garrow White; his grandchildren, Troy, Alexander IV, Lanney, Sydnie, Memphis, Kharlene, Abram, and Isaac Jr .; his great grandchildren, Thorn, Karter, Alexander V, Kian, Zayne, Zaylee, Zayven, Ivory, Cedar, and Blair; his sister, Hazella "Honey Bee" Terrance; his brothers, Robert Herne and Ronald (Diane) Garrow; his brother-in-law, Walter Bero; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Wanienteh Lyons; his sisters, Donita "Roxanne" Garrow, Beverly and Rosemary Garrow and Geraldine "Debbie" Bero; his brothers, Sam, Dewey, and Lewis Garrow.
Friends may call at his home, 62 Rooseveltown Road beginning at 4:00 PM Wednesday until the time of the service at 11:00 on Thursday.
