Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club Experiences Fire

AKWESASNE. October 30, 2024. This afternoon, at approximately 5:20 PM, a fire broke out at the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club’s main clubhouse located on Roosevelt Town Road. All children and staff were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported. Thanks are extended to the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department (HAVFD) and Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal PD for their quick and dedicated response. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The extent of the damage is still unknown, and the club will remain closed until further notice. ABGC Executive Director Jessica Cree Jock reassures families, stating, “In the coming weeks, ABGC will work with families to find an alternative location for Clubhouse activities, ensuring children continue to have a safe, supportive space.”
