A Voice from the Eastern Door
On Monday, October 21, the MCA Land-Based Healing Program and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe's Agricultural Program joined hands with Akwesasronon families for a "corn-ucopia" of activities.
Under sunny skies and a warm breeze, community members 'celebrated the beauty of the harvest season by picking white corn.'
After everyone had picked the white corn, they came together to braid the corn while sharing stories about the essential traditions of planting and harvesting this revered and valued crop. Afterwards, participants enjoyed delicious cornbread and refreshing strawberry drink.
The next harvesting session will take place on Wednesday, October 23 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the SRMT Agricultural Farm, Blair Rd. For more info or to sign up, contact LaToya Rourke at 613-330-0468 or [email protected]
