Dr. Pate Joins St. Lawrence Team As OB/GYN Chair

POTSDAM – Rochester Regional Health's St. Lawrence team is pleased to welcome Board Certified physician James Webster Pate, MD, FACOG, to its Obstetric & Gynecology (OB/GYN) team as the Department Chair.

He is treating patients at Canton-Potsdam Hospital's Helen Snell Cheel Medical Campus, 49 Lawrence Ave, Potsdam; and Massena Hospital's Women's Health Clinic in the Casey Medical Office Building, 15 Hospital Dr, Massena.

Dr. Pate is American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology certified. He earned his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, OR; and completed his OB/GYN residency at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN. He is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), and a member of the American Medical Association, Gay & Lesbian Medical Association, and World Professional Association for Transgender Health. Furthermore, Dr. Pate is fluent in Spanish.

From the time he was a child, Dr. Pate knew he wanted to be a doctor, and said he views it as a privilege to be in the field of Women's Health.

"Women have unique medical needs, including the menstrual cycle, pelvic pain, pregnancy, and hormonal issues. I'm able to build lasting relationships with my patients, offering continuity of care from their teen years through to their later stages of life," Dr. Pate said.

"As a board certified OB/GYN, my practice includes routine office visits, obstetric care, and gynecologic surgery. I also specialize in providing care to gender-diverse patients, including masculinizing and feminizing hormone therapy, and gender-affirming hysterectomies," he added.

Upon coming to New York from Seattle, WA, Dr. Pate found his way to the Adirondack Region in 2017.

"It quickly felt like home. The North Country is where I found the community and lifestyle I was looking for," he stated.

As Chair of the OB/GYN Department, Dr. Pate leads a team of providers, while also offering direct care to patients for a range of obstetric and gynecological needs, including transgender and gender-affirming services. He delivers babies and specializes in managing high-risk pregnancies, pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, and hormonal or sexual dysfunction. His surgical expertise includes minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures for conditions such as ovarian cysts, endometriosis, sterilization, and hysterectomy.
