A Voice from the Eastern Door

New Main Entrance, West Wing Opens at Canton-Potsdam Hospital

POTSDAM – The brand new 108,000-square-foot Regional Care Pavilion at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, including the main entrance, officially opened to the public this morning, Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

The new main entrance is designed for easy car-to-door access upon arrival at the Hospital from Grove Street. The covered main entrance protects patients and visitors from the ever-changing weather in the St. Lawrence Region and, in turn, offers a more comfortable and welcoming initial patient experience.

Just inside, patients and visitors will enjoy the thoughtfully designed and spacious Maresca Family Lobby, which features a large fireplace and abundant natural lighting to promote peace and relieve stress. The new Casella Waste Systems, Inc. Information and Registration Desk staff will assist patients and visitors upon arrival. Individual registration rooms are designed to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality. The new donor wall, baby grand piano, and outdoor patio have been incorporated to help provide a comfortable experience.

Later this fall, visitors to the Hospital will be welcomed into a remodeled Canton-Potsdam Hospital Guild Gift Shop stocked with essential items and gift ideas alike. Additionally, the SeaComm Federal Credit Union Café will open within the lobby, affording visitors access to an array of coffee options, tea, and treats.

Sixty new, single-occupancy, private patient rooms are twenty-eight percent larger and include individual bathrooms and family accommodations where medically appropriate. Each room is equipped with state-of-the-art Masimo wireless technology for continuously monitoring vital signs and patient activity. Canton-Potsdam Hospital is proud to be one of only five hospitals in the United States and the first in New York State to offer Masimo technology. This is part of Rochester Regional Health's vision to transform rural healthcare, with the St. Lawrence Region leading the way.

Thoughtfully placed nurses' stations on the in-patient medical/surgical floors allow for enhanced visibility, heightened communication, and even more efficient bedside care. In addition to a better patient experience, clinical team members have a modern, new environment to deliver the exceptional care they are known for.

The Hospital's new Emergency Department (ED) opened a month ago on September 17. It offers rescue personnel and patients a more accessible and streamlined entry for urgent and emergency cases, a larger waiting area, new triage rooms for quicker assessments, four new trauma rooms, and 11 additional treatment rooms. The ED expansion is the only Level III Trauma Center in the Region, which will help meet the ever-increasing volume trends.

Rochester Regional Health is proud to offer a facility that matches the high-quality healthcare its St. Lawrence Region has always provided. St. Lawrence's goal is to create a more healing environment for all its patients, and the health and comfort of all its patients are top priorities.

Walk-thru videos of the Emergency Department, and lobby and patient rooms, along with a brief timeline video of the entire west wing project are available for viewing at https://www.stlawrencehealthsystem.org/about/regional-care-pavilion.
