MNCC Announce 2024 Kariwi:io

Day 1, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024: Noon-2 PM: the visitors from the other Nation will arrive at the Longhouse. The Turtle Clan will greet the visitors with beef barley soup and sandwiches and drinks (water, coffee, tea). At 2 pm, everyone is told to enter the Longhouse. The host people (Kanieńkehá:ka) sit on the Bear side of the house and visitors sit on the Wolf and Turtle side of the house. Each Longhouse give their greetings and hands in their invitation wampum to the host. A welcoming with a handshaking ceremony will take place, then procedures are laid out for the week. The host will announce to our visitors, we will eat supper at 5:00 pm (venison stew and/or chili, fry bread, peach cobbler). We have a social for our visitors at 7 pm that night (this is open to everyone, not just our visitors).

Supper and social dance will be the same time for each day of Kariwi:io.

Day 2, Monday, Oct. 7, 2024: The men cook and serve breakfast, need more men to volunteer for this time. At least 8 men are needed every morning to prepare the breakfast and make the strawberry drink. Servers need to arrive by 7 am to help the men serve breakfast from 7 am to 8:30 am of scrambled eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage and pancakes, oatmeal, and toast. Strawberry drink needs to made each morning.

At 8:30 am, the people are summoned into the Longhouse for the opening and the start of the first day of speaking for Kariwi:io. Halfway through, two men are chosen to pass out strawberry drink to all the people in the Longhouse. When they are done speaking on the first day, then we have O'stonwakowa, recite the closing for the day, then everyone goes to the cookhouse for lunch. The Snipe, Deer, Eel clans will serve bison meatloaf, mashed potatoes, veggies, salad and dessert. The visitors are allowed to eat first, when seats open up, then the host people are allowed to eat.

After lunch, we are summoned back in the longhouse, we open, a delegate is selected to do a recap of the first day, atonement is made, recite the closing, and announce supper will be ready at 5 pm of bean soup and sandwiches with a social to follow at 7 pm.

Day 3, Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024: The schedule for the day will be the same as Day 2. The men cook breakfast. The Bear clan will serve bison roast dinner with roasted vegetables.

Day 4, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024: The schedule is the same as Day 2 & Day 3. The men cook breakfast. The Wolf clan will serve and turkey and ham dinner with hash, baked beans, green bean casserole, coleslaw.

Day 5, Last day, Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024: The men cook breakfast. All Clans will work together to prepare salads and cookout of hamburgers and hotdogs for the visitors. Some will stay and eat; others will leave with a takeout container to eat on the road.
