Celebrate Art, History, and Culture during Fall Family Weekend in St. Lawrence County!

Canton, NY - Get ready for a vibrant weekend filled with art, history, and family fun from Oct. 4-6! Fall Family Weekend promises an array of engaging activities for all ages, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of our community.

Friday, October 4: A Day of Crafting and Celebration

Kick off the weekend at the Canton Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Crafts & Cider Pressing hosted by the St. Lawrence County Center for History and Culture. Experience the charm of seasonal crafts and a live cider pressing demonstration using a traditional apple press - perfect for all ages and completely FREE in the Canton Village Park!

In the evening, get ready for the Harvest Moon Cowboy Ball at the Frederic Remington Art Museum from 6-11 p.m. Celebrate the 163rd birthday of STLC-native artist Frederic Remington with delicious appetizers, a cash bar, and a silent auction. Don your best western attire - think cowboy hats, boots, and denim - and dance the night away! Tickets are available online at fredericremington.org.

Saturday, October 5: Flannel Fest and Creative Workshops

All day long, embrace the spirit of Flannel Fest in Downtown Canton! Wear your favorite flannel and explore local shops featuring exciting pre-holiday specials. It’s a perfect day to discover unique finds while supporting local businesses. This event is coordinated by the STLC Chamber of Commerce and hosted by/at Canton’s Downtown Businesses!

Discover a Youth Woodworking Workshop at the TAUNY Center from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m. Led by Kate Schuler, this workshop is designed to make woodworking accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels. Participants will create a beautiful piece of wall art to take home. Registration details can be found on the TAUNY website, tauny.org.

At 10 a.m., the Canton Free Library invites young readers to Bear Storytime, featuring engaging stories, songs, and crafts for toddlers through early elementary-aged children.

In the afternoon, unleash your creativity at the Pumpkin Pottery Painting event at the Creative Spirit Community Arts Center in Potsdam from 1 - 4 p.m. For just $15, participants can paint a bisque-fired pumpkin, with all materials provided. Pre-registration is required due to limited slots, find more information on slcartscouncil.org.

From 2 - 4 p.m., join the St. Lawrence County Center for History and Culture for Día de los Muertos Family Fun at the Silas Wright House. Learn about this beautiful tradition while creating decorative papel picado and sugar skulls to commemorate loved ones. A small photograph can be brought to add to the communal altar. Registration is recommended, and activities are designed for ages 5+ with a suggested donation of $5.

Sunday, October 6: Roundup at the Museum

Wrap up the weekend with Remington’s Roundup at the Frederic Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg from 12 - 4 p.m.! Enjoy a scavenger hunt, art activities, and even pet a miniature horse! Food from the Pig + Moo food truck will be available, making it a delightful day for all cowgirls and cowboys.
