A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE- Norman King, 85, of 5 Park Street, Kanatakon, peacefully passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at the Cornwall Community Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Norman was born on January 6, 1939 in Ottawa, son of the late Paul and Agnes (Square) King. He attended St. Regis Schools and married Nancy Mitchell on August 5, 1961 at the St. Regis Catholic Church with Fr. Arsenault officiating.
He was a communicant of the St. Regis Catholic Church and worked as an Ironworker Local #440 Utica, and a carpenter for the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. He built many of the homes in Kanatakon for the Council, and made many swing sets, and adult and children sized picnic tables. He enjoyed watching the races at Frogtown and Cornwall Speedway and on TV. He was a gifted musician and enjoyed playing the guitar, even teaching his son to play. Most of all he cherished time with his family and grandchildren.
Norman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy; his children Mary Faye Roundpoint (Toby) of Tsi Snaihne; Beatrice King (John Mitchell) of Kanatakon; and Norman King, Jr. (Courtni) of Hogansburg; his grandchildren Amber, Noel (Chris), BreighAnn (Gerald), Kehley, Larry (Carlee), Raven (Lauren), Tobilee (Chris), Kyle, Norman III (Avery) and Aubre; and his great grandchildren Gianna, Roryn, Brynlee, Ryland, Gerran, Rennyn, Brenna, Rainyn, Zane, Rynn, Trighton, Brooklyn, Peighton, Priscilla, Maisie and Bayla.
He is also survived by his brother Patrick "Pat" King of Tsi Snaihne; sister Veronica Thompson (Jerry) of Kawehnoke; sisters-in-law Kathryn Square, Sesi King, Rhonda King and Caroline Lazore King; and a special daughter-in-law Cheyenne Lewis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents Paul and Agnes, Norman was also predeceased by two sons Larry R. King and Joseph King; his siblings Stanley Square, Nancy Swenson, Jerry (Angie) King, Abe (Clara) King, special sister Beatrice (Jimmy) Bero, and Albert, Paul Jr., Mike, Christina and Mary Alice King.
Friends called at the family home, 5 Park Street, St. Regis, beginning Monday at 12 noon until Wednesday at noon, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Regis Catholic Church at 1 PM with Rev. Andrew Amyot celebrating. Burial followed at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
