Celebration of Mohawk Creation

CORNWALL – The Ontario Power Generation (OPG) hosted an evening with members

of the Akwesasne community to celebrate Mohawk Culture. Held in several gardens at Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre on Second Street West, plenty of guests wandered the beautiful grounds, viewed the exhibits inside the Visitors Center and enjoyed two live readings outdoors.

Under cloudy skies, but with warm breezes to keep everyone content, the early evening event featured local children's book authors, Ariana Roundpoint and Arihhonni David. Roundpoint read from her new book 'My Tota's New Car' and 'Bean and Grandma's Weekend.' David told a lively and entertaining story from his book 'The Good Game.' David also has a new book out, 'Who Will Win.'

Also featured at the Celebration of Mohawk Creation was Kelly and Tyson Back displaying their beaded loomed belts, Lis Thompson of Talking Turtle Baskets and Norm Peters from Thompson Island Cultural Camp.

This event was organized by summer interns Angelina Roundpoint, Cameron Baggs and Sophia Dorie.
