A Voice from the Eastern Door
Cornwall, ON - is once again hosting their annual Harvest BBQ Open House on Saturday, September 14 from 10 am to 3pm at the Club which is located at 506 Pitt Street in Cornwall, Ontario (corner of Pitt and Fifth Streets).
Open to the community, this family friendly FUNraiser event will not only feature a BBQ but will also play host to arts and craft booths, yard sale items, as well as provide tours and
demonstrations in the Centre’s newly established Knowing Growing Accessible Garden. In
celebration of the Club’s commitment to community partnerships, some craft sales will also
support the local Alzheimer Society as well as Hospice Cornwall. Information will also be
provided on the Centre’s new Fall lineup of programs and activities.
Tours of the Garden will highlight its special accessibility features and include a worm
composting demonstration. Garden Project Coordinator, Karen Douglass Cooper says, “This
accessible garden has been providing a wonderful opportunity to give elders a chance to grow
healthy food as well as discover traditional methods of canning and preserving freshly grown
produce.” She adds, “We are especially grateful to our friends and neighbors from Akwesasne,
our dedicated volunteers, as well as the local schools who pitched in to make it all happen.
Together we have been able to grow community as well as good food for this year’s BBQ and we could not be more pleased.”
