Tsiionkwanonhso:te Residents Hit the Water for Another Day of Pontoon Fun

On Friday, August 23, 2024, another crew of residents at the Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long-Term Care facility (LTC) spent their day on the water, enjoying the sights and sounds of the St. Lawrence River on the Thompson Island pontoon. Mike Buckshot provided driving services for our elders to experience the day on the river. Akwesasne Child & Family Services (ACFS) provided the pontoon for the Tota's to enjoy a day of leisure on the river.

The pontoon day consisted of a leisurely drive to tour the three districts of Akwesasne. They were able to see the flood areas and the change in landscape, sighted the teepee at Sit n' Bull Camp along the Racquet River, and out to Stanley Island. They were able to see lots of wildlife along the banks of the rivers and enjoy the sights along the way. The residents then made their way to the Blue Anchor in Cornwall and enjoyed a wonderful lunch of fish and chips.

It was a beautiful day, and the weather stayed perfect for our elders. The elders thoroughly enjoyed their day and can't wait to hit the rivers again.

Nia:wen ko:wa/thank you to ACFS, Thompson Island Cultural Camp, and Mike Buckshot, and to all to those who helped in making the Tsiionkwanonhso:te LTC pontoon day a great success.
