AKWESASNE MOHAWK POLICE ISSUE UPDATE IN ONGOING INVESTIGATION

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is providing a brief update concerning the tragic fatalities of nine individuals that occurred in March 2023. As mentioned in a previous joint media release with RCMP, OPP, CBSA on June 6, 2024, our investigation into those responsible is ongoing.

On August 22, 2024, Stephanie Square, 51, was arrested by Akwesasne Mohawk Police on the charge of Operation While Disqualified. She was additionally arrested on a Provisional Arrest Warrant for: Conspiracy to Commit Alien Smuggling, Alien Smuggling for Profit, and Alien Smuggling Resulting in Death Pursuant to the Extradition Act. Square was remanded into custody to appear at later date.�

We continue to work with local law enforcement agencies as this is a complex cross border smuggling investigation.
