The Akwesasne Freedom School Survival Race was held on Saturday, Augst 24, 2024. Under sunny skies and a warm breeze, runner (6.2 miles), bikers (15 miles), paddlers (6 miles), and backpack carriers (1.4 miles) put weeks of training to the test. This year, recent water samples had shown higher than safe bacteria levels, which could pose health risks and resulted in the swimming portion of the race being adjusted. Rather than swim 1.5 miles, they completed a water relay. It may not have been as challenging as swimming in open water, but it proved to be a lot of fun.
