A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Office of the Executive Director is providing an update on the 2024 MCA General Election Process.
On July 18, 2024, the Akwesasne Election Appeal Board (AEAB) issued their decision to set aside the full election results, which requires a new election to be held. No appeals to the AEAB’s July 18th decisions were filed in the Akwesasne Court. One separate
Appeal was filed in the Court that was excluded from the AEAB hearings since it was determined to have no merit. The Court does not have a deadline by which to respond to the filing.
Based on the decision of the AEAB, the election process will continue. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and the Deputy Electoral Officers (DEO) will continue serving the remainder of their 3-year terms.
The next steps are as follows:
Corrections and full review of an updated Voters List
Setting dates for Nominations and the General Election
