HELEN E. "KONWAHENTENSE" EDWARDS

HOGANSBURG-Helen E. "Konwahentense" Edwards, 73, of 76 Solomon Road entered the Spirit World on Monday, July 15, 2024.

Helen was born on October 1, 1950 in Bombay, daughter of the late Thomas and Katherine (Laughing) Montour. She was a Salmon River Central School graduate and earned her Master's Degree in Education. On April 17, 1970, she married James F. "Sonny" Edwards at the Tonawonda Indian Reservation. James predeceased her on March 23, 2015.

Helen was a Mohawk Language teacher, working for the Ahkwesahsne Board of Education. She belonged to the Mohawk Nation Longhouse and the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group. She loved speaking Mohawk, watching Hallmark movies, and loved anything Christmas. Helen also enjoyed just staying home and hanging with her sisters and visiting with guests that stopped by. Helen was a sweet, warm-hearted woman whose kindness touched anyone she met.

She is survived by her sisters Martha Lickers, Sandra Terrance, Anita Mitchell and Margaret "Peggy" Montour; her brothers Kevin, Michael and Anthony Montour; her stepson Dean Edwards; grandchildren Raienkonnis (Julia) Edwards, Atonhiatase Davis and Rahonwakete Davis; her step-granddaughter Ashley McEwan, and many step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents Thomas and Katherine, and her husband James, Helen was also predeceased by her daughter Kanekiiostha Lynn Edwards; her step daughter Donna Edwards; and her sister Kerry Montour.

Friends called at the family home and a Funeral Service will be held at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse. Burial will follow at Solomon Road Mohawk Nation Cemetery.
