The Akwesasne Election Appeal Board (AEAB) is in receipt of appeals regarding the 2024 Mohawk Council of Akwesasne General Election which took place on June 29, 2024. The AEAB met following the deadline for appeals on July 4, 2024 and found several appeals to have merit. Nineteen (19) appeals were received, and fourteen (14) have been found to have merit.
In accordance with the Akwesasne Election Law, the AEAB will have 14 days (until July 18, 2024) to make a decision regarding each appeal and the decision could require the election results to be set aside, in whole or in part. A public hearing will be scheduled at which the AEAB will hear each appeal and render a decision.
Any person(s) or candidate(s) impacted by the appeal(s) can pick up documentation regarding their appeal at Admin 1 in Kana:takon. They then have the opportunity to submit a response by July 10, 2024 at 4 p.m. Responses can be delivered to Admin 1 reception.
Once the AEAB has made a decision, the originating appellant has the option to appeal the decision to the Akwesasne Mohawk Court.
