A Voice from the Eastern Door

Summary Report of Planning Meetings On Establishment of Kawehnoke Power Generation, (KPG)

Date: June 29, 2024

At the start of the meetings it was recognized that the electrical power industry is divided into 3

segments: 1) Power Generation, 2) Power Transmission and 3) Power Distribution.

KPG will be generating power from the river with a pilot project testing site for sale to a

distribution utility company. At the first planning meeting this clarification was requested and

made because some Akwesasneronon were misled into thinking that the intent of establishing

KPG was to take over Cornwall Electric, the Island utility company.

Next a request to clearly identify the purpose of KPG was made and done citing the purpose

was to generate power from the river for sale to an utility company from a testing site.

It was pointed out that to undertake any power generation testing from the river a professional

engineering firm will need to be involved. A canvass of 4 engineering firms was done soliciting

interest and 1 was found to be willing to work with local Akwesasne professional engineers.

It was pointed out that there are multiple funding sources available for this pilot project testing.

It was recommended that in addition to power generation testing the not for profit KPG look into

obtaining an equity share of the power generation revenues from both NYPA and OPG

produced from the Robert Mosses - Saunders dam on our land.

The not for profit KPG will be providing income to every Akwesasne community member on a

per capita distribution basis.

Going forward the core KPG board members will now finalize the structure of the not for profit

organization. A Board of Directors elected by members is being designed.

Once formalized, legal paperwork with the private property owner for access to set up the pilot

project testing site shall be executed.

When these tasks are completed a budget for the initial engineering design work for the set up

of the pilot project testing site will be completed and submitted for funding to available sources.
