Snake Island Muskies Start '24 with Three Straight Wins

AKWESASNE – The Snake Island Muskies are leading the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League with three consecutive wins and no losses.

Their third game of the season played Saturday, June 8, saw the Muskies host the Kahnawake Mohawks.

The Mohawks, who played without any of their import carded players, got off to what looked to be a good start scoring the first goal. The Muskies rallied quickly. After 20 minutes, they led on a score of 5-1.

They continued to demonstrate their prowess in the middle period, outscoring the visitors 7-1.

In the final thirty minutes, the Muskies scored three to Kahnawake’s two goals. The final score was 15-6 for Muskies.

Leading the scoresheet for the Muskies was Brine Rice for three goals and two assists, followed by Myles Jacobs with another three goals. Sam Firth scored two goals and added two assists for Snake Island.

The Muskies will face Kahnawake once again at the Cornwall Civic Complex this coming Saturday night at 8 p.m.

“I expect a different game, Kahnawake will have more depth come next week,” Head Coach Kariwate Mitchell said.
