Quebec BEI Clears AMPS Officer in 2023 Incident

The Quebec Bureau des enquetes independantes (BEI) has concluded its investigation into the incident involving an Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service (AMPS) officer’s use of his service weapon. The investigation has determined that no charges will be authorized against the officer.

AMPS Acting Chief of Police Ranatiiostha Swamp confirmed the officer’s return to full duty following the conclusion of the investigation. The BEI, which provides oversight to police services in Quebec, had conducted an independent criminal investigation into the April 2023 incident. The investigation has now concluded, clearing the officer of any wrongdoing. The officer is expected to resume full duties this month.
