Young Akwesasronon Take Part in 50th Anniversary Tamarack Ottawa Kids Marathon

The Tamarack Ottawa Kids Marathon celebrated its 50th Anniversary on May 24, 2024. Children ran a distiace of 1.2 kilomters from Ottawa City Hall to 110 Laurier Ave West. Chidlren from ages 5 to 12 participated with over 350 running.

As the Tamarach Ottawa Marathon celebrated its 50th year, the Iakwa'shatste Fitness Progrma celebrated its 5th year running the Kids Running Program!!

This year's Marathon team consisted of Program Coordinator Tyren Boots of Spirit North, AMS Physical Education Teacher Erin Seymour, Tsi Snaihne Teacher & ABGC Coordinator Heather Cook and Annie Cree. Marathon Day Team included Annie Cree, Erin Seymour, Tatum Lafrance, Will Peters, Penny Peters and Mary F. Terrance

Students have been in training for the last 6 weeks at AMS, Tsi Snaihne and Generations Park.

Annie Cree stated "It was so nice to see it all come together! What a great team effort thank you!! Tom Longboat Race Days are next up!

Ottawa Kids Marathon 2024 – Team Akwesasne Runners included Melani, Sophia, Elle, Wallace, Anaya, Brea, Zackary, Zeah, Zeke, Faith, Grace, Willow, Cruz, IIiana, Jaxson, Maxwell, Cree, Spirit, Olivia, Joelle, Colin, Sawyer, Asher, Kimberly, Tate, Rawistanawentha, Ronikonronwanen, and Tarieriwaiene.

As part of the Ottawa Marathon, organizers of the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend commemorated 50 people who have "significantly impacted the race over the decades through their tireless dedication, hard work and deep passion for marathon running."

Annie Cree was among the 50 Stars for 50 Years honored for her commitment and dedication. Each honoree was given a signature coin as a "token of gratitude for those who have inspired, shaped, and steered the race and the running community to where they are today."
