Akwesasne Mohawk Police Wraps Up 2024 Police Week

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service wrapped up their 2024 Police Week, which ran from Saturday, May 11th, to Friday, May 17th. This year's theme was "Committed to Serve Together." In a Facebook post, AMPS acknowledged the crucial partnership between members of a police service, between police services, between the police and other first responders, as well as between the police and the organizations and people in the communities they serve. It is this collaboration that forms the cornerstone of effective crime prevention and public safety initiatives. AMPS took this opportunity to strengthen the bond between the police and the community of Akwesasne. Their goal is to 'open dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect so we can build safer, more inclusive neighborhoods where everyone feels valued and protected.' The AMPS' police week theme, Committed to Serve Together, highlighted and celebrated the role AMPS police officers and personnel play in community safety.

"Our police officers, EMTs, Communication Dispatchers, Firemen, and civilian personnel work hard every day to earn the public's trust and confidence." The police week started on Saturday, May 11, with the ever-popular and successful 'Kids for Fishing.' With over 40 youth, including special needs children, chosen to fish with some of the top anglers from Canada and the United States.

On Sunday, May 12, AMPS worked in partnership with ACFS and CBSA and attended Iakhihsohtha, serving Totas and families breakfast. Each Tota received a special gift honoring Mother's Day.

Monday, May 13, started Day 3 of Police Week with two events; the first event police worked in collaboration with the ACDP program and SRMTPD to provide seniors and elders with education and awareness on Hidden Mischief. AMPS officers also attended Kana:takon School and participated in a number of outdoor school activities with the students.

On Tuesday, May 14, AMPS, ACFS, and CBSA helped serve lunch to the Totas at Tsiionkwanonhso:te Long Term Care Facility and presented each Tota with a special gift.

Midweek, on Wednesday, May 15, they presented 'Spring into Safety' with AMPS' SAVE unit providing awareness tips on ATV safety. This event was in collaboration with AMPS, ACFS, Tsi Snaihne School, and Iakwa'shatste Youth Fitness.

Thursday, May 16, rounded out the week with AMPS playing against Tsi Snaihne School in an exciting game of kickball.

Ending Police Week on Friday, May 17, AMPS officers had fun at the AMS Social.
