A Voice from the Eastern Door

Chickasaw Nation Health System Recognized for Excellence

The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center has been spotlighted for its exemplary services and dedication to healthcare excellence. This recognition comes from the esteemed America’s Best-In-State Hospitals 2024 ranking, published by Newsweek in collaboration with Statista Inc., a leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider.

The evaluation process, as described by Newsweek, involved an intricate methodology that combined insights from healthcare professionals through a nationwide online survey, patient experience data, hospital quality metrics from Medicare and Medicaid Services, and a Patient-Reported Outcome Measure (PROMs) Implementation survey. Over 5,000 hospitals across the United States were considered, culminating in a list of 600 hospitals that represent the ‘Top 10’ within each state. The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center proudly stands among these ranks as a top hospital in Oklahoma.

Dr. Charles Grim, Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Health, expressed pride in the institution’s achievement, stating, “The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center is proud to be recognized by Newsweek and Statista as being a Top 10 Oklahoma Hospital,” Dr. Charles Grim, Chickasaw Nation Secretary of Health, said. “Guided by our mission — to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people — our staff and teams work diligently to provide care and services that are truly world-class and offer patients the best care possible.” He emphasized the center’s mission to enhance the quality of life for the Chickasaw people through diligent care and world-class services provided by the staff and teams.

The importance of proximity and access in selecting top hospitals was a significant factor in creating the Best-In-State Hospitals ranking. This approach aims to assist individuals in finding high-quality healthcare options within their state, addressing the challenge that access to healthcare often depends on the patient’s distance from facilities.

Dr. Grim highlighted the extensive evaluation process, noting that Statista and Newsweek’s efforts to assess over 5,000 hospitals were based on multiple data sources. These included the nationwide online survey with participation from more than 10,000 medical professionals and evaluations of quality metrics data from Medicare services on aspects such as mortality rates, safety, readmission rates, and the effectiveness of care.

Patient experience metrics, such as hospital cleanliness, quietness, communication effectiveness, staff responsiveness, and care transition, were also critical in the evaluation process. Dr. Grim took this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health staff, attributing the success to their commitment and service.

“Our staff are the reason for the Chickasaw Nation Department of Health’s success, and the key to assuring each patient gets the best care, every time,” Dr. Grim said. “We are so proud of our staff and their servant’s heart and warrior determination. Their dedication to their jobs, the Chickasaw people, our patients and each other is truly inspiring.”

The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center is described as serving all First Americans with a range of specialized services and facilities, including a level three emergency department, specialized clinics, an ambulatory care facility, a diagnostic imaging center, and a women’s health center, among others.

Dr. John Krueger, Chickasaw Nation Under Secretary of Medical Staff/Quality, remarked on the commitment to providing high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, reinforcing the recognition as a testament to the staff’s hard work and the vision of Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby and Lt. Governor Chris Anoatubby to develop a world-class healthcare system.

“The Chickasaw Nation Department of Health is committed to assuring patients receive high-quality, safe care that is kind, compassionate and patient centered,” Chickasaw Nation Under Secretary of Medical Staff/Quality Dr. John Krueger said. “This recognition by CMS validates the work of our amazing staff and the execution of Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby’s and Lt. Governor Chris Anoatubby’s vision to develop world-class, high-quality health care.”
