JOSEPHINE N. CARNEY TARBELL

MASSENA- Josephine N. Carney Tarbell, 90, of 146 Center Street, peacefully passed away on March 7, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Josephine was born on March 4, 1934 in Syracuse, daughter of the late Thomas and Nancy (Oakes) Tarbell. She married Donald F. Carney on June 5, 1953 in Syracuse. Donald predeceased her in 2016.

She was a communicant of St. Regis Catholic Church and a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. She loved playing Bingo, word searches, scratch offs, and watching Law & Order and her other crime drama TV programs. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Josephine is survived by her children Beverly Henson of California; Rosemary Carney of Puerto Rico; Nancy Carney of Massena; Donna Carney of Missouri and Diane Miracle of Buffalo; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents Thomas and Nancy, and husband Donald, she was also predeceased by her children Esther Carney and Debra A. Payne; her son-in-law Gary Shatraw; her siblings Huey Tarbell, Kenneth Tarbell, Sarah White, Catherine Murray and Lawrence Jackson; and her nephew Thomas Tarbell.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.
