A Voice from the Eastern Door
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne's Mental Health Program would like to extend a warm welcome to Melissa Jacobs-Swamp as the new Program Manager. Melissa enters into her new endeavour with a wealth of knowledge and expertise of mental health.
Melissa is a Registered Social Worker, with a psychotherapy designation, from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). She is also a registered social worker with the Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des therapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Quebec (OTSTCFQ).
Melissa has worked within the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne for over 20 years, serving in various positions, such as a Case Manager with Akwesasne Child & Family Services (ACFS), Medical Social Worker with Home Care/Home Support, and most recently with Wholistic Health & Wellness as a Mental Health Therapist since 2018. Given her background working with elders issues, she has a special interest in Geriatric Counseling, legal matters in regards to capacity, ethics, and family dynamics. Part of her role within Mental Health includes community outreach, which she enjoys, and finds is an integral part of her work.
