Shamrocks Season Ends in Bout for Section 10 Title

POTSDAM – The Salmon River Shamrocks boys varsity hockey team wrapped up their 2023-24

season playing for the Section 10 Division II championship.

They faced the St. Lawrence Central Larries at Cheel Arena on the Clarkson University campus for the title on the evening of Monday, Feb. 26 but fell short with a 6-1 final score.

Dylan Johnson scored the lone Salmon River goal unassisted on a breakaway in the first period while down 2-0.

Salmon River goalie Ethan Gibson stood tall in the 'Rocks net, turning aside 25 shots.

For the Brasher team, Michael Donie scored twice. John Boyce shot what would hold up as the game-winner late in the first period, assisted by Charlie Dow. The other SLC goals came off the sticks of Charles Clark-Vallance, Dow and Connor Provost, who also had an assist. Tyler Merriman tallied two helpers. Kamdyn Coughlin had one assist. Goalie Avery Zenger turned aside 31 shots.

In other recent sports outcomes, the Shamrocks beat the Norwood-Norfolk Flyers to earn their spot in the Section 10 banner game by a final score of 3-0.

Goalkeeper Ethan Gibson showcased his prowess with 21 saves, leading the Shamrocks to a shutout victory over the Flyers in a Division II sectional semifinal held in Fort Covington.

Kahontiio Lazore netted the decisive goal, courtesy of an assist from Alex Delormier, during the

second period for Salmon River.

In the final period, Clayton Benedict found the back of the net with an assist from Oscar Cook, while Dylan Johnson capitalized on a pass from Carter Johnson with just 1:09 remaining on the clock.

Caleb Averill concluded the game with 19 saves for Norwood-Norfolk.

On the same day, Massena won the Section 10 Division I final against Canton at Cheel Arena against the Potsdam Sandstoners. The score was 4-2.

Massena saw Houston Johnson net two goals, while Carter King contributed a goal and an assist. JP Bouchard initiated the scoring for the Raiders.

Meanwhile, Tyler Martin and John Duffy found the back of the net for Potsdam.
