Ahatihsesta'ta – Putting Sap in the Tree Ceremony

The Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs, Clan Mothers, and Faithkeepers announce Sap Ceremony to be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

Please bring tobacco to make an offering to all the trees and shrubs to honor the duties that they perform here on earth and especially the maple tree for the sap it brings, so we have maple syrup for another year of ceremonies.

After tobacco burning, we will do O’stowakowa, then do Tenhakenrawenrie (stirring ash song) to honor the Basswood tree, then Akweksneha to honor the poplar tree, then sing Teioshitatihon to honor the Hickory tree, but not necessarily in this order.

Please bring corn mush, corn bread, strawberries, and eating utensils. All Onkwehonweh are welcome. Traditional dress appreciated.
