A Voice from the Eastern Door
Niawen
We would like to send a Niawen:kowa to everyone who helped with the Akwatsi:re (family) of James (Dewey) Jacobs funeral. It was very appreciated by all the support we received.
Thanks again also to all who accompanied us on the barge, ordered by his brother Ronnie J. in carrying Dewey’s casket across the river to Yellow Island to be buried, “underneath the huge oak tree”. There he lies forever more as he wished.
Chad Green director/owner of Donaldson’s Funeral Home said, “this is my first time in crossing a river to bury someone,” then prayed over Dewey’s resting place, RIP. It was beautiful and lifted our hearts emotionally and spiritually, and truly was the very thing we needed.
Expressing gratitude to those mentioned here: The pall bearers – Patrick (Wahte) Sunday, Jerome Cook, Lance Lazore, Corey Jacobs, Peter (Beta) Angus & Dustin Oakes. Catering service of Tsi Snaihne recreation girls (Lorraine); those who provided more food, coffee, water, sandwiches, etc.; Thanks to the Homemakers; Alice Thompson, Maddie Johnson, Dyan Swamp, Teres Sharrow, Sheilah Jacobs, Stacey Jacobs, Mr. Ryan King, Eli Tarbell, Eric Oakes & helpers, Haylee Jacco, Ariah Francis, Bailey Sylvester, Robyn Jacco, Jordan Cook, Scott (Butter) Thompson and anyone who attended the funeral for support.
The beautiful song sung by the Mohawk Choir ladies, “Amazing” Grace” in mohawk along with Wahte playing his guitar. Filling in for Father Jerome was RJ Dolly McDonald, Ministry liaison’s service.
If we missed anyone, please excuse us.
