A Voice from the Eastern Door
Six of eight projects will be in collaboration with Indigenous communities
KAHNAWAKE – The Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) wishes to inform the community that in partnership with Kruger Energy and the MRC Jardins-de-Napierville, a submission for a 147 MW Wind Energy Project was submitted and subsequently selected as one of eight (8) successful bids.
Named Les Jardins, the project will be located in the MRC-des-Jardins-de-Napierville and feature 20-25 turbines. The Les Jardins windfarm is expected to be operational by December 1, 2028 and will supply electricity to Hydro-Quebec who will purchase the electricity for a 30-year period. Before construction begins, the community will be consulted by Kruger Energy. The project will undergo a number of consultations, studies and approvals, including an environmental assessment.
“We are honored and delighted to announce this first major milestone in our latest wind energy project, in collaboration with some exceptional partners,” said Executive Revenue Officer Alex Beaupre. “Throughout our previous projects, Kruger has demonstrated unwavering support and a deep understanding of our community’s needs, and this new partnership will allow us to foster a crucial partnership with the MRC that benefits not only our community but the broader region as well.”
Hydro Quebec released its call for proposals on March 31, 2023, and of the eight (8) successful projects, six (6) will be in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
