SRMT Consultation Meetings Scheduled for Proposed Used Oil Regulations

AKWESASNE — (Tsiothóhrha/December 5, 2023) The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environment Division and Compliance Department host two community consultation meetings to present the proposed SRMT Used Oil Regulations.

The first meeting was announced and held on Tuesday, Tsiothóhrha/December 12th from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. The second meeting will take place on Tuesday, Tsiothóhrha/December 19th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

The draft regulations were developed to manage used oil and ensure the protection of public health by reducing unnecessary exposure. The regulations propose to establish standards for the proper handling, storage, disposal, and cleanup for this solid waste. The Used Oil Regulations apply to commercial auto repair shops, used oil collection facilities and include exemption criteria for the “Do-It-Yourselfers.”

These meetings are intended to present the highlights of the proposed Tribal Used oil Regulations and to take questions regarding its content and application. The next meeting will be held in the first-floor boardroom at Ionkwakiohkwaróron on Tuesday, Tsiothóhrha/December 19th from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.
