Tribal Nations Summit Announced by White House

Washington, D.C. — The White House has officially announced the 2023 White House Tribal Nations Summit, scheduled for December 6th and 7th in Washington, D.C. This pivotal event underscores the Biden-Harris Administration’s dedication to fortifying Nation-to-Nation ties with Tribal Nations.

The Summit serves as a platform for Tribal leaders to engage in substantial dialogues with senior Administration officials. Discussions will center around the implementation of critical priorities, introduction of new policies, and addressing various issues pertinent to Tribal Nations.

Notable leaders from across the Administration will be present to announce new initiatives and provide updates. These announcements are expected to enhance the ongoing progress, introduce avenues for more inclusive Tribal consultation, and effectuate changes that promise to benefit Tribal citizens for generations.

Tribal leaders are urged to register for the Summit by 5pm ET on November 27th, 2023. Given the limited capacity, only one leader per Tribe can be accommodated. However, Tribes whose leaders cannot attend may delegate another governmental representative by contacting [email protected].

Since his inauguration, the President has consistently prioritized strengthening relationships with Tribal Nations. This commitment includes honoring treaty obligations and promoting Tribal sovereignty and self-determination.

The Tribal Nations Summit is a testament to the President’s dedication to respecting the Nation-to-Nation relationships with Tribal Nations. It is a critical meeting point for addressing significant issues impacting Tribal communities.

This year’s Summit will highlight new actions by the Administration to support Tribal communities. These are part of the President’s broader Investing in America agenda, which has seen unprecedented investments in Tribal Nations and Native communities.

Notable actions include efforts to address the crisis of missing and murdered indigenous people, securing advanced funding for the Indian Health Service, and initiating new partnerships for co-stewardship of ancestral lands and waters. Significant achievements include the establishment of National Monuments like Avi Kwa Ame in Nevada and Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument in Arizona.
