The Salmon River Shamrocks paid tribute to three senior players who will move on after the '23-'24 school year. They held the recognition ceremony Monday, Oct. 23, before the start of their home game against the Brushton-Moira Panthers, who they downed in three straight sets.
Tessa Cree, who wears #34, has been a member of the team for three years. She wants to go to college and study to become a teacher or a therapist, while continuing her volleyball career. She also hopes to be a coach some day, and "learn how to understand her future athletes and to help them grow," Head Coach Alicia Mitchell wrote. Laffin was joined by supporters including her Tota, Tina Mitchell.
Iakokariio Clute, who wears #51, has played been part of the team for three years, but she was unable to play last season due to an ankle sprain. She wants to attend college to study childhood education and psychology. She plans on attending a Mohawk language program. She wants to go on to help children learn the Mohawk language so they can become the next generation of speakers, Coach Mitchell wrote. Clute was joined by her mom Kawennahente and her dad Tehanonshake.
Shelby Jock, #52, has been on the team for three years. She wants to attend college and continue her volleyball career at the next level. She was joined by her parents, Kimberly Jock and Russ Jock.
The Shamrocks went on to face Tupper Lake on Wednesday, Oct 25 and won 3-0 in their final regular season game.
