A Voice from the Eastern Door
AKWESASNE – Eugene A. Tarbell, 67, of Tarbell Road, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Massena Hospital.
Eugene was born on November 11, 1955 in Massena, the son of the late George and Mary Jane (Thompson) Tarbell. He attended and graduated from Salmon River Central School, where he played hockey for many years. On September 30, 1978, he married Jacqueline McDonald in Brushton.
Eugene was a proud ironworker for over 40 years, retiring from Local #440. He loved an adrenaline rush, he slalom skied, drag raced snowmobiles, Go-Karts, RC racing, and more importantly was the owner/driver of 7D Lone Wolf Racing at Mohawk International Raceway. For years he was his son's crew chief for drag sled racing and his daughter's crew chief for dirt car racing. More recently he assisted his granddaughter with her racing dreams as her crew chief and drove his boat for his grandson to slalom ski. He was also a fabricator, who had an eye to build anything. He will be fondly remembered by his nicknames "Uncle Eugenius" and "Chuck Norris." He was the greatest father to his children and proud Grandpa to his grandchildren, there is nothing he wouldn't do for them.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Jackie; their children, George, Bradley, and Claudia Tarbell, all of Akwesasne; his grandchildren, Bryan and Macy Tarbell; his sisters, Debra Solomon, Juanita Tarbell, and Alice (Maday) Herne, all of Akwesasne; his brother, Russell (Sandra) Tarbell of Akwesasne; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Freda M. Tarbell on December 27, 1996.
Friends called at the home of his sister, Juanita Tarbell at 9 Mary Road.
In lieu of flowers those wishing may consider memorial contributions in his memory to the Mohawk International Raceway.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may share memories and offer condolences online at http://www.donaldsonfh.com.
