Massena Inducts Hall of Famers

Massena High School inducted two teams and several individuals into their Hall of Fame. They recognized them at halftime during the Raiders' game against Malone, which they went on to win 42-18.

One of the inductees was Eric Francis, class of 2013. She was a three-sport athlete for the Raiders and finished her career receiving the Massena Central High School Female Athlete of the Year Award. Francis was a member of the girls soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. This earned her the Massena High School Letter "M" Award. Erin's career on the lacrosse team was outstanding from 2010-13. She was the captain in 2012 and 2013. During her career she was honored with the following

awards: Watertown Savings Bank Athlete of the Week, Section X First Team, All-Northern Girls Lacrosse 2010-13, Section X Girls Lacrosse MVP 2013, Massena Central Girls Lacrosse Offensive MVP 2012-13 and Massena Central Lacrosse All Time Points Leader for Boys and Girls with 493 total career points.

Francis led Massena to the Section X Championship in 2010-13, when she also played basketball and soccer. She was captain of both teams her senior year. Both teams were Class A Section X Champions. Erin was Section X Second Team All-Northern in soccer her senior year.

Also inaugurated were the 2004 and 2006 volleyball teams.

The 2004 team finished with a 16-3 record. They were tri-champs in their division and second place overall in Section 10. The players included Mallory Truax, Marcy Lannis, Tracie Cook, Alexia Strzalka, Ashley Thompson, Sharlie McLean-Krywanczyk, Katie Trautmann, Lindley Cook, Sara Roundpoint, Kanentahawi Delisle, Maegan Thomas and Julianne Skidders. Their coach was April Charleson.

The 2006 team finished with an 18-2 overall record, claming the East Division championship and finishing second place overall in Section 10.

The team included Hannah Callahan, Katie Jock, Sara Roundpoint, Jenn Roundpoint, Lindsay Ortman, Cara Terrance, Maegan Thomas, Kylee Thomas, Lindley Cook, Mikayla Thompson and Rebecca Harvey. Their coach was also April Charleson.

Saturday Sept. 23, Hall of Fame football game, Massena 42 Malone 18 – The Massena Raiders secured a 42-18 victory over the Franklin Academy Huskies during their Saturday afternoon clash in Massena. The game commenced with the Huskies displaying remarkable aggression. They quickly surged to a 6-0 lead as quarterback Logan Peck located Jordan Perry, who narrowly eluded the Raiders' defensive line to secure a touchdown. After the game was tied by Massena, Peck connected with Perry once more, making it a 12-6 advantage for the Huskies.

Just before the halftime whistle, momentum began to shift in favor of the home team. Connor King's touchdown run, executed with less than three minutes remaining in the second quarter, leveled the score once more for the Raiders. Following this, Massena quarterback Conner Eastwood, successfully converted a two-point conversion to Garrett Weir, granting the Raiders their inaugural lead. Exploiting a poor snap and forcing the Huskies to punt deep within their own territory, the Raiders capitalized by garnering two points through a safety. Shortly thereafter, they scored again, amassing a 22-12 lead as the teams entered halftime.

In the second half, the Raiders sustained their offensive prowess, with Gage Charleson's two-yard rushing touchdown extending their lead to 29-12. While Peck connected with Trent Carreiro later in the third quarter to keep the game within reach, the Raiders concluded the game by scoring 13 unanswered points in the final minutes.

Monday, Sept. 25, volleyball, Massena 3 Gouverneur – The Raiders swept the Wildcats in three straight sets with scores of 25-10, 25-11 and 25-8. Allison Lazore contributed nine service points and six aces with one kill. Kaniehtentha Thompson scored four service points with two aces and seven kills. Mylynn Laughing recorded three service points, an ace and four kills. Adrianna Summers served up seven points with three aces and also added two kills. Makenna Cameron tallied six service points and an ace. Katelyn Benham served eight points with three aces and also notched a kill and 15 assists. Lauren Park served 13 points with five aces, a pair of kills and five assists. Nylah Tillman had three service points with five kills. Ellie Ware served a point. Adrianna Santamaw netted two kills. Addison Point made a solo kills.

Friday, Sept. 22, volleyball, Madrid-Waddington 3 Massena 2 – The Yellowjackets upended the Raiders in a close game. Massena came out of the gate strong, winning the first two sets each by respective scores of 25-22. M-W got on their feet in the middle set, winning that one 25-21 followed by scores of 25-22 and 15-12 to win the game.

"Madrid-Waddington played extremely well," Massena Coach Nicole Deshaies said. "Their defense outplayed us, and they utilized our errors.

For the Raiders, Kaniehtentha Thompson tallied 13 kills, three blocks, nine service points and three aces. Allison Lazore came through with 10 kills, six service points and three aces. Nylah Tillman served up 11 points. Makenna Cameron served nine points with a pair of aces. Lauren Park netted six service points and four aces. Katelyn Benham notched eight service points with three aces and 22 assists.

Wednesday, Sept. 20, volleyball, Massena 3 Chateaugay 1 – The Lady Bulldogs, visiting for the match, found themselves trailing 2-0 early and were unable to stage a comeback as they ultimately succumbed to the Massena Raiders in four sets. The scores were 25-19, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-14. Massena got out to an early lead after two sets, both concluding with identical 25-19 scores. However, Chateaugay showed signs of life in the third set, securing a 25-20 victory. The Raiders swiftly regained control in the fourth set, decisively winning 25-14 and ultimately clinching the match.

Massena's standout player was Allison Lazore, who led with 10 kills, four blocks, 15 service points, and four aces. Makenna Cameron chipped in with six service points, two aces, and two kills, while Lauren Park contributed eight kills, three assists, seven service points, and an ace. Kaniehtentha Thompson excelled with eight kills, two blocks, three assists, four aces, and an impressive 16 service points. Nylah Tillman contributed three kills, five service points, and an ace, Arianna Santimaw notched four kills, and Katelyn Benham recorded six kills, a block, and 23 assists.

Nevaya Adams spearheaded Chateaugay's efforts with 11 assists, three blocks, and six kills. Torie Patterson contributed significantly with 12 assists, four kills, and 12 service points, while Sophia Nemier notched five kills and five points. Vicki Titus stood out with 14 kills, and Vanessa Titus added 11 kills to the team's performance.

Wednesday Sept. 20, volleyball, Tupper Lake 3 Salmon River 1 – In NAC play on Wednesday night in Fort Covington, the Salmon River varsity volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks. Both teams left the contest with identical 2-3 records. The Lumberjacks secured the higher rank in the NAC East Division standings by virtue of their head-to-head victory.

Audrey Terrance made her mark with 10 kills and contributed five service points for the Shamrocks, while Tessa Laffin chipped in with two kills and four points. Jemma Jacobs recorded five kills, Iakokariio Clute delivered four spikes, and Kaidance Sunday contributed five kills along with three service points.

Tuesday, Sept. 19, girls soccer, Salmon River 4 Ogdensburg 1 – Lindsey Durant and Kelsey Barkley scored a goal and an assist to push Salmon River to the win to beat Ogdensburg Free Academy at Ogdensburg. Ariyah LaFrance and Chuya Cook each netted goals for the Shamrocks. Audrey Harradine scored for OFA.

Tuesday, Sept. 19, girls soccer, Massena 0 Canton 0 (OT) – Neither team was able to capitalized as Makayla Sunderland kept six shots out of the Raiders net. The Golden Bear's Callie Tebo had a big game with 17 saves.

In other recent Massena and Salmon River sports action – In boys soccer, Salmon River beat Gouverneur 6-2 on Tuesday, Sept. 19, Massena beat Potsdam 1-0 in double overtime on Thursday, Sept. 21, Beekmantown defeated Salmon River 4-1 on Saturday, Sept. 23 and Salmon River downed Gouverneur 5-0 on Monday, Sept. 25. In girls soccer, Lisbon beat Salmon River 1-0 on Monday, Sept. 18 and Salmon River beat Norwood-Norfolk 4-1 and Massena beat Potsdam 3-2 each on Friday, Sept. 22. In volleyball, Salmon River won against Brushton-Moira 3-0 on Monday, Sept. 18.
