Akwesasne: Owen J. Peters, 47, of Akwesasne, passed away on September 21, 2023 at Ottawa Civic Hospital after a brief illness.
Owen was born on February 22, 1976 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of Joseph and Lucille (Lazore) Peters. He attended Snye School, AMS and later General Vanier Secondary School. Owen worked construction and as a mechanic for many years.
Owen will be remembered for his ability to tell a great story, know all the facts about the World Wars and history. He was a race fan especially of Formula 1 and admired NASCAR’s Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed playing golf and watching movies, documentaries and sports.
“The Boy” is survived by his beloved mother, Lucille Peters of Akwesasne; two sisters, Penny Peters of Akwesasne and Karen Hall of Syracuse; His nieces, Joelle Peters, Shontell Papineau, and Naomi Papineau; a nephew, Peter Papineau Jr., his Godparents, Charlie and Genevieve Peters and a Goddaughter, Trinity Lazore, and by many Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
He is predeceased by his Father, Joseph, his Grandparents Jake and Isabel Lazore, John and Teresa Peters and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
Friends may call on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 starting at 12:00 Noon until 9:30 am on Wednesday at Akwesasne Homemakers in Snye. A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday at St. Regis Catholic Church at 11:00 am with burial to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Regis.
