In recent Massena and Salmon River sports, Massena crushed Gouverneur and Salmon River played a hard fought contest against Malone. Here are the recent results:
Wednesday, Sept. 6, boys soccer, Massena 9 Gouverneur 1 – Salvatore Peretta scored four times as the Raiders defeated the Wildcats in an NAC game in Massena. Camron Francis scored a goal and an assist for Massena.
Wednesday, Sept. 6 boys soccer, Malone 3 Salmon River 2 – The Malone Huskies boys' varsity soccer team secured their inaugural victory in the early part of the season by successfully fending off a late comeback effort from the Salmon River Shamrocks. They clinched a 3-2 win on Wednesday night at the Franklin Academy turf field. Ryan Hesseltine had an exceptional performance, marking his first varsity goal just 15 minutes into the game, granting Malone a 1-0 advantage. He then struck again early in the second half, capitalizing on a pass from Ben Poupore to extend the lead. With a mere 13 minutes remaining, Caleb Hall added the third goal to make it 3-0. Nevertheless, the Shamrocks didn't go down without a fight. Dylan Johnson took matters into his own hands, netting two goals in the final ten minutes of play. The second of his goals occurred with less than 20 seconds left on the clock. However, with such limited time remaining, Salmon River couldn't complete their comeback, allowing the Huskies to secure the victory. Hesseltine contributed two goals for Malone, while Hall notched one, and Poupore provided an assist. Johnson, on the other hand, scored both goals for the Shamrocks in their loss.
In other Massena and Salmon River varsity sports action – Saturday, Sept. 9, Canton beat Salmon River 8-1 in boys soccer and Massena beat Potsdam in football 41-30; Friday, Sept. 8, Chateaugay beat Salmon River in volleyball 3-2; Thursday, Sept. 7, Canton beat Salmon River in girls soccer 2-1; Wednesday, Sept. 6, Salmon River beat Ogdensburg in volleyball 3-1; Tuesday, Sept. 5, Malone beat Salmon River in girls soccer 2-0.
