The First Congregational Church in Malone, NY, will host this remarkable presentation, offering the community a unique opportunity to connect with history.
Charmaine Crowell-White possesses an extraordinary ability to "open windows" into the past, transporting her engaged audiences to the often-overlooked lives of remarkable African American women. Through her powerful portrayals, she sheds light on their ambitions, struggles, heroism, and resilience in the face of racism and violence.
This inspiring event is open to the public and generously sponsored by the Thrive Project and the First Congregational Church of Malone. The Thrive Project, a nonprofit organization established at the Downtown Artist Cellar in Malone, NY, is dedicated to building a stronger and more connected community where art serves as a conduit for self-expression, dialogue, understanding, social change, and lifelong learning-a mission at the heart of the Thrive Project's work.
The First Congregational Church warmly welcomes donations to support the preservation of the historic Underground Railroad located within its basement, further emphasizing the significance of this event.
The "Open Windows" program is made possible through the inaugural Audience Building Project, "Reignite the Field." Generously backed by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and facilitated by the Lake Placid Center for the Arts (LPCA), this initiative aims to enhance arts organizations' capacity to establish enduring and meaningful connections within their communities.

Charmaine Crowell-White, an accomplished graduate of San Jose State University (CA), is set to grace the North Country with her captivating presence this Fall. With an unwavering dedication to the theater arts, Charmaine has honed her craft to perfection, accumulating over two decades of experience. Her performances serve as a testament to her talent and expertise, seamlessly weaving her perspectives and skills into a diverse range of educational and captivating settings.
