Darryl Lazore Memorial Scholarship

On September 3, 2022, the first annual "Grip It and Rip It" Darryl "Kermit" Lazore Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament was held in remembrance of the late Kanatakon District Chief, Darryl Lazore. Darryl "Kermit" Lazore was a dedicated servant and valued member of the community of Akwesasne.

A lifelong resident of Kana:takon, Darryl was a proud Ironworker, business owner, environmentalist and elected Chief. He found much gratification in serving the people of Akwesasne. The Darryl Lazore Memorial Scholarship committee sponsors a yearly scholarship open to any Akwesasne youth pursuing a career in the Ironworker or Arborist trades, or postsecondary student with a focus on Political or Environmental Science.

The Darryl Lazore Memorial Scholarship was created to honor Darryl's commitment to the community of Akwesasne. Applicants should explain their career goals, plans for attainment, extra curricular activities, leadership and demonstrate their commitment to the betterment of Akwesasne. A $1500 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant that best demonstrates the criteria.

Applicants pursuing a career in Ironworking, Political Science, or Environmental studies are encouraged to apply. Submissions are due Friday, August 18, 2023. Please submit a typed essay and letter of acceptance into college or trade to the Darryl Lazore Scholarship Committee at [email protected].

The first scholarship recipient will be announced at the 2nd annual "Grip It and Rip It" Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Highland Greens Golf course.
