AMPS Addresses ATV Issues

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service feels it necessary to bring to the attention of the community that in the past several weeks, officers have been dispatched to attend to collisions involving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and golf carts. The circumstances surrounding these incidents indicate that both the drivers and passengers were noticeably lacking in appropriate safety gear, a situation which unfortunately led to serious injuries.

It’s vital to remember that ATVs, which encompass vehicles such as 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, among others, are specifically designed for off-road use. Consequently, when these types of vehicles are driven on regular roads, all the prevailing traffic laws must be strictly adhered to. The use of an ATV or a golf cart as an alternative form of travel on the roadway is not the intended purpose of these vehicles.

The officers of the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service are deeply committed to maintaining the safety of our roads for the benefit of all motorists and pedestrians. They implore all residents to respect the laws governing road use, and to ensure that their all-terrain vehicles are correctly registered and insured.

For more detailed information on road safety measures specifically pertaining to all-terrain vehicles, the community is encouraged to visit the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service’s Instagram page.
