A shooting incident, allegedly involving gang activities, sent three individuals to the hospital on Saturday, according to the Cornwall police. An eyewitness portrayed the alarming scene as a violent confrontation between two biker groups.
Stephanie MacRae, a spokesperson for Cornwall Police Services, confirmed that three individuals were injured during the incident. Two persons were stabbed, one was shot, and all are expected to live, according to a news release from the service on Monday.
“There was an altercation that occurred between motorcycle gangs,” she said.
According to police, the incident took place in Cornwall around Vincent Massey Drive and 14th Street W.
In a report by CBC, an eyewitness said there was a violent brawl prior to police arriving on the scene. Between 7:30 and 8 o’clock on Saturday evening, he mentioned seeing three or four motorcycle riders seated close to the Cora restaurant. He claimed that shortly after 8 o’clock, eight to twelve other individuals riding motorcycles arrived and started attacking the other four right away.
“There was a lot of blood,” according to an eyewitness in reporting from CBC.
When he tried to dial 911, he saw that the cops had already arrived on the site. Some of the motorcycle riders, he claimed, drove off. Although the remaining motorbikes partially blocked his view, he could still make out at least one person who was on the ground.
“He couldn’t stand up, so right away police came and start to give first aid,” he said.
The incident, according to Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale, was horrifying.
“We’re a safe community. We’re not used to seeing anything like this, and it certainly sends a shock through the entire community... People are worried, people are scared.”
Five people “have been taken into custody and charged accordingly,” police said, with more information to be made available at a later time.
Cornwall police expressed their belief that the incident was a deliberate attack between the Outlaws and Loners motorcycle gangs. A provincial biker enforcement team has been brought in to aid in the investigation.
An Outlaws’ clubhouse situated nearly 100 kilometers east, in Brockville, Ontario, was reported to have caught fire early Monday morning, as per local law enforcement. This fire incident also caused damage to approximately eight to ten surrounding residences.
In response to queries, the Cornwall police stated on Monday that they could not establish a connection between the two incidents at this time. Similarly, the Brockville police mentioned on Monday morning that it was too premature in their investigation to ascertain any link.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The CPS is asking for members of the public who witnessed the incident or who may have video surveillance captured of the incident to please contact Detective Sergeant Mark Anderson by calling 613-933-5000 ext. 2603.
