Ross Island is located northeast of Thompson Island, approximately 16 miles from Akwesasne.
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service is investigating the discovery of a deceased person in the St. Lawrence River on Monday, July 3, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m. The body was recovered in the vicinity of Ross Island, Akwesasne.
Ross Island is approximately 20 miles from Akwesasne, located south of Cooper's Marsh.
Police are awaiting confirmation from the coroner's office regarding the identity of the individual. According to AMPS, the results from the Ontario's coroner's office is expected to be released on late Tuesday.
It is extremely difficult to speculate who the deceased body is, as there are other missing people from the Akwesasne – Cornwall and surrounding area.
AMPS' will share this information as soon as possible. No other details or information can be released at this time.
