Salmon River Announces Graduating Class of 2023

Graduation Ceremony Planned For 6 p.m. On Friday, June 23

FORT COVINGTON – The Salmon River Central School District is proud to announce the Class of 2023.

VALEDICTORIAN – Luke Miller has earned the title of valedictorian for the Salmon River Senior Class of 2023. He is expected to finish his high school career with a weighted GPA of 104.804. Luke will be awarded an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honor, a Mastery in Math and a Mastery in Science. Luke is the son of Melissa and Shawn Miller, and the brother of Johnny Miller.

Luke will be attending Clarkson University to study Mechanical Engineering.

Luke has been an active leader at Salmon River. Luke is president of Student Council, president of National Honor Society, president of the senior class and represents his teammates on the Varsity Club.

Luke has earned numerous academic awards, including being on the Principal's List every quarter of high school. He has accomplished Outstanding Achievement in Earth Science and earned the Daughters of American Revolution Award for having the highest average in AP U.S. history. Luke also earned the Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award, RIT Innovation and Creativity Award, Clarkson University High School Leadership Award and 2018 Triple C Comptroller's Award for Courage, Character, and Commitment.

In sports, Luke has achieved many honors and accolades, including being named Academic All-Northern in soccer, hockey, and baseball each season of high school. He is also a NYS Scholar Athlete in soccer, hockey, and baseball. Luke received the honor of being a part of the Section X Leadership Academy, and was named 1st Team All-Northern in soccer, hockey and baseball. He was awarded the Section X Hockey Vern Burrow Sportsmanship Award. This year, in an impressive season, Luke was named to the 1st Team All-State Hockey Team during the New York State Final Four event.

Luke says he will miss playing sports for the school and is grateful for all of the friendships he has made over the years at Salmon River.

SALUTATORIAN – Riley Thomas has earned the title of salutatorian for the Salmon River Senior Class of 2023. He became a member of the Salmon River Central School District in sixth grade. Riley is expected to finish his high school career with a weighted GPA of 104.164. He will be awarded an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors and Mastery in Math/Mastery in Science. Riley is the son of Falon Thomas and Nolan Jacobs.

Riley will be attending Yale University where he plans to study Computer Science and Math.

Riley is a member of the National Honor Society, where he serves as the vice president. Riley has been named to the Principal's List every semester of his high school career and has been one of the top two students of his class each year. Riley is an ambassador for the Mohawk Youth Health Ambassadors and a member of NCSTEP, an organization that works with students interested in entering the science field after graduation. Riley plays the trumpet in the High School Band and participated in All-County Band. Riley is also a three-sport athlete, participating in cross country, basketball, and spring track.

Riley has been awarded the Clarkson School Scholars Award, the RPI Medal for Academic Achievement and the Wilkes University Colonel Leadership Award.

Riley says he has enjoyed his time at Salmon River and will really miss Class Olympics after he leaves.

More than 90 Salmon River students are expected to graduate next week from the school district. A graduation ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. on Friday, June 23, in front of the Salmon River Central School building.
