Akwesasne Career & Employment Support Services to Conduct Akwesasne Labour Market Information Study

Onerahtohkó:wa/May 31, 2023

Akwesasne ~ Akwesasne Career & Employment Support Services (ACESS) has contracted with Venture Associates, a local business and community development company, to conduct the updated 2023 version of the Akwesasne Labour Market Information Study (ALMIS). The primary purpose of the study is to gather accurate labour market information directly from individual community members and employers to support ACESS and other organizations in development of relevant programs and services. The overall goal is to consistently support our community’s employment growth and sustainability by providing relevant programs and services.

The study process is designed to collect community labour market information via survey tools directed to Akwesasne community members and employers. The final report will provide current status of the labour market, estimated unemployment rates, and projections of future employment growth which will help guide ACESS and other organizations over the next 3-5 year timeframe.

The very first labour study specific to Akwesasne was completed in 2015, with a follow-up study in 2018. This initiative was a first step toward gathering our own labour market data that had never been captured in a significant manner by other external or internal efforts. ACESS is committed to ensuring that programs and services continue to be proactive and responsive to the needs of local job seekers and employers.

Russell Roundpoint, Executive Director indicated it is important to know the current conditions and expected areas of growth for employer labour needs. ACESS strives to provide assistance to improve the employability skills of their clients. They have established partnerships with employers, agencies, and educational institutions and share knowledge and resources to promote an efficient Akwesasne labour market.

Summer students Kiana Robertson and Tsiakoseriio David, along with Lisa Francis-Benedict, Project Assistant will be surveying the community members. The project will be launched June 1, 2023 and will run until August 31, 2023.

If you are interested in participating in the survey in person or online via a link, please contact Darlene Francis, Venture Associates. All community members and employers in Akwesasne are encouraged to participate.
