Salmon River girls and boys lacrosse teams continued their strong starts to the 2023 season with wins over Massena and Malone. In girls lacrosse, the Shamrocks presented a gift and special message to Franklin Academy in recognition of their inaugural season.
Thursday, April 20, girls lacrosse, Salmon River 22 Malone 1 – The Salmon River Shamrocks girls lacrosse squad took a wide win against hosts Franklin Academy to take their second win of the 2023 season.
The Shamrocks found the back of the Huskies net five times right off the bat, then went on to score another eight before the half.
McKenzie Francis-Chubb opened the scoreboard. She went on to tally two goals and two assists on the day. Ariyah LaFrance, who finished with three goals and six helpers, took a pass from Francis-Chubb for the only goal Salmon River would need. Goalie Kimora Swamp made five saves.

The Shamrocks have their own goal for the 2023 spring season, defend their NAC championship, and had a dozen players notch at least one goal during the victory against Malone.
Kawenokwiio Mitchell led led the ’Rocks in scoring four goals. Mylee Oakes scored three goals with a helper. Joryan Adams netted a pair of goals and had made five assists. Kakwenies Mitchell scored two goals and helped set up a scoring play. Iosheriio Tabor (three assists), Azalea Lazore (one assist), Addison Cooke, Leyla Snyder, Chuya Cook and Anastasia Terrance all netted singletons. Kaidance Sunday fashioned one assist.
Prior to the start of the game, Salmon River coaches and captains presented the Malone team with a special gift for its inaugural varsity season: a no-face doll carrying a lacrosse stick with a special message.
“We are very thankful for this gift and special message,” Franklin Academy Coach Michelle Reynolds said.
The special message had a headline of “Our Ancient Gamer,” and said, “Our grandfathers told us LACROSSE was a gift to us from our CREATOR to be played for his enjoyment and as a medicine game for healing the PEOPLE.
The young men and women who participate in the CREATOR’S game will generate a gift of healing that we may have peace of mind.”
Saturday, April 22, girls lacrosse, Salmon River 16 Ogdensburg Free Academy 2 – After beating Heuvelton 20-5 a day earlier, the Shamrocks built up a 7-2 lead by the second half and reeled off nine more goals while silencing the Blue Devils offense. Ariyah LaFrance scored a hat trick. Azalea Lazore scored three goals with a helper. Anastasia Terrance and Kaidance Sunday each scored twice with one assist. Hannah Costello and Abby Guasconi scored for OFA.
Saturday, April 22, softball, Massena 8 Ogdensburg Free Academy 0 – Isabelle Wilson struck out 15 OFA batters and had two hits at bat. Ainsley Cromie rapped a triple and ended the day with five hits total. Emma Gushlaw doubled. Kristin Oliver knocked a single.
Saturday, April 22, baseball, Massena 6 Ogdensburg Free Academy 0 – Taylor Mitchell struck out 11 batters and allowed three runs. Jake Firnstein doubled and scored a run. Lawrence Eddy and Hunter Young each batted singles. Ryan Mitchell pitched a complete game for Ogdensburg, allowing five runs. Lucca LaBella knocked a triple.
Tuesday, April 18, softball, Canton 11 Massena 2 – Noelani Wilson struck out 12 batters for the Raiders. Canton’s Ava Hoy went 3/3 at bat, including a triple, and struck out eight Massena batters in four relief innings.
Tuesday, April 18, baseball, Canton 3 Massena 1 – Chris Marasco highlighted the Raiders offensive effort with two hits, including a double. Canton’s David Zuhlsdorf stuck out 12 Massena batters and allowed three hits.

Tuesday, April 18: Salmon River beat Ogdensburg 17-2 in baseball; Ogdensburg beat Salmon River 22-11 in softball; Potsdam defeated Massena 11-7 in girls lacrosse.
