A Voice from the Eastern Door

Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe To Hold Food Giveaway

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has announced an Emergency Food Distribution to aid Akwesasne families on April 29, 2023. Tribal Staff, alongside gracious volunteers, will be distributing food items from 10:00 a.m. until supplies last, along Margaret Terrance Memorial Way to promote community health and well-being.

To ensure safe and organized distribution, community members are urged to use the McGee Road entrance to Margaret Terrance Memorial Way near Bears Den. McGee Road will be one-way traffic throughout the event, and community members must follow this traffic pattern to access the food distribution. Generations Park will remain closed for the duration of the event.

The food giveaway will involve multiple stations across Margaret Terrance Memorial Way, where Tribal Staff and volunteers will place food supplies in the trunks of waiting vehicles. As boxes will not be provided, individuals are requested to bring their bins or other containers to carry food supplies. To participate, community members must be Akwesasne residents and provide Tribal ID, MCA Status Card or Red Card for registration. Throughout the event, vehicle trunks must be left open, and individuals must remain in their vehicles while respecting social distancing measures.

Food items will include Ham, bacon, ground beef, chicken, sausage, Glazier hot dogs, lunch meat, bread, milk, egg beaters, butter, oatmeal, and other non-perishable items. This Emergency Food Distribution is possible due to the Tribal and FEMA partnership. The SRMT Office of the Family Advocate, Social Services Division, Community and Family Services Division, Tribal Police Department, Finance, Executive Director’s Office, Office of Emergency Management and Safety, and other Tribal Staff and volunteers are appreciated for making this food distribution possible.
