LAKE PLACID – A symbolic seed exchange took place prior to the opening of the 2023 FISU World University Games. Tribal Chief Ron Lafrance, Sub-Chief Agnes Sweets Jacobs, and Sub-Chief Derrick King accepted red oak seeds from Lake Placid Mayor Art Devlin. The seeds are meant to help replant our ancestral forests and help combat climate change. The seeds were placed into a small container that was inside a Mohawk sweetgrass basket before being placed with 3,000 more seeds that were planted by the athletes competing in the games.
