Salmon River bests Massena in boys hockey, Raiders down OFA in basketball

In recent Massena and Salmon River varsity games, the Shamrocks defeated the Raiders in boys

hockey and the Shamrocks blanked Ogdensburg. In basketball, Massena’s girls and boys teams both blew past OFA.

Friday, Jan. 6, girls basketball, Massena 62 Ogdensburg Free Academy 50 – The Raiders worked their way to a 24-20 halftime lead and posted eight from the three-point line to down the Blue Devils at Massena. Meghan Firnstein scored 22 points, a game high, including three three-pointers. Chyler Richards tossed in 19 points, including three from the top of the key. Sophia Greco scored seven, Madison LaDuke six, Riana Baxter four and Makenna Camerson tallied two points. For Ogdensburg, Abigail Raven scored 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Amya LaFlair scored 11 points. Zoe Williams scored eight points with four steals. Olivia Merrill scored six points with five boards. Jaedyn Awan scored three points with six caroms. Clara Cole netted two points.

Friday, Jan. 6, boys hockey, Salmon River 7 Ogdensburg Free Academy 0 – The ‘Rocks scored the only goal they’d need in the opening stanza then punched in five more in the second period at Tom Cavanaugh Arena in Akwesasne. Goalie Rick Chatland turned aside all 25 shots he faced. Evan Collette opened scoring at 2:14. Chase Lewis scored a hat trick. Connor Dishaw scored twice. Rylan Adams netted a solo marker and a solo helper. Kade Cook helped set up three scoring plays. Dylan Johnson and Carter Johnson added one assist each. Ty Jacobs made 40 saves for Ogdensburg.

Thursday, Jan. 5, boys basketball, Massena 63 Ogdensburg Free Academy 48 – Massena started with an 18-9 lead after the first quarter and went on to outscore the competition 15-5 in the third quarter run after a 31-25 score at the half. Colin Patterson went 8/9 shooting free throws and ended with a game-high 16 points to lead the Raiders. DeShawn Walton scored 12 points and blocked four shots. Taylor Mitchell netted 11 points. Carter Firnstein and Ty Lucey each tallied nine points. Jake Firnstein scored six. Justice McIntrye, who fouled out, tallied 15 points to the Blue Devils. Shea Polniak scored nine points, Connor Graveline eight and Alex Mitchell seven.

Wednesday, Jan. 4, boys hockey, Salmon River 12 Massena 2 – Connor Dishaw and Evan Collette each scored hat tricks for the Shamrocks at Massena Arena. Their squadmate Carter Johnson scored twice. Chris Marasco and Aidan Aldou scored the Raiders’ goals.

Wednesday, Jan. 4, girls basketball, Massena 66 Norwood-Norfolk 33 – Sophia Greco fueled the

Raiders win with 26 points. Caryn Perretta tallied a dozen points for the Flyers.
